Between Coasts

A small cove on the Croatian coast, late afternoon. The water has turned from turquoise to a deeper blue, the limestone rocks still hold the heat of the day, and the swimmers are slowly making their way in. A young couple stretches a towel out on the warm stone. Her hair is wet and pulled back. He's reading a book he hasn't turned the page of in a while. Behind them, a path climbs toward a village just visible between the pines. A bergamot tree leans over the trail. Nobody is in a rush.
